I recently was a guest consultant at a Psychic Fair and met many wonderful people who talked to me about their spiritual and energetic needs. There were two common themes among my patrons - protection & nightmares. Which brings us to one of my favorite herbs, Hyssop (Hyssopus Officinalis).
Don’t let its gentle tea-like scent fool you, this one has a lot of bang for its buck. It’s associated with Jupiter, the Great Benefic King, which means he grants blessings above and beyond what you asked for. In other words, you ask for food to get you to the next payday and suddenly you have enough food resources to make it through the winter.
Combine that with the properties of Hyssop -protection and purification. That is quite the 1-2 punch. Hyssop has been used for centuries for purification and consecration.
A sprig of hyssop was the brush dipped in blood painted onto the lintel of the home to protect those in the home during the plague (Exodus 12:22). “And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.”
It's used in ritual baths to break hexes and curses and an infusion or tea can be added to any cleaning waters to protect your home. Add it to your dish soap, floor wash, and even to your laundry soap if need be. Add to your all-purpose house cleaner and wash around the windows, doors, and any openings (including outlets and vents-anywhere that is not solidly closed) into the home.
It is traditionally associated with fire but has a lot of air-like properties as well, so I call this an Air of Fire herb. It’s also a masculine herb which basically means it takes action first rather than reacting. In other words, it takes an active interest in your spells, prayers, rituals, or any other magickal workings.
This all makes it an excellent herb to stand guard against hexes, curses, and any uppity oogie boogies (technical term!) that you didn’t invite. This is why I put it in my no more nightmare blend, Peaceful Dreams. You didn’t invite that!
Peaceful Dream Sachet (the adult version)
1 Sachet
2 parts lavender
1 part Thyme
1 part Hyssop
1 part Vervain
Instructions: Fill up the sachet keeping your mind focused on the positive goal - I will have only peaceful, happy dreams and will wake up refreshed, full of vitality and peace of mind.
I keep repeating this mantra or a similar positive one.
I cannot stress this enough, you MUST put positive energy in for this to have maximum benefit. If your thoughts are in any way wishy-washy or fearful, you left the window unlocked and they will sneak in anyway!
Tie the sachet with three knots, one for good dreams, a second for falling asleep with ease, and a third something specific to you that ties it all together! Sweet dreams my loves!
